Antonio Megalizzi

Antonio Megalizzi was born on 15 May 1989 and has nurtured a great passion for radio broadcasting since he was a child. As a boy he worked with his first professional station, “RTT la Radio” as a production technician and music programmer.

In the summer of 2014 he graduated in Communication Sciences in Verona and began working with Rai Trentino.

In 2015, he attended a summer school in Brussels, where he picked up on the gap in communication between Europe's institutions and citizens: he designed formats to explain and bring the European Union closer to the people. He joined the Italian editorial staff of Europhonica, the European university radio stations format, to create the development of a conscious European citizenship.

Over a period of four years, he produced over 100 radio reports on the EU and trained 40 young people, taking part in dozens of trips to the European Parliament in Strasbourg where he interviewed numerous MEPs. While working, he enrolled in a Master's degree in European and International Studies at the University of Trento with the aim of attending an Erasmus programme in Luxembourg and continuing his path of European growth.

Antonio was killed at the age of 29 in a terrorist attack in Strasbourg at the heart of the European Union on the 11th of December 2018.

Testimony collected in cooperation with the Megalizzi Foundation.
